"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A daylight snatching incident was reported from the Bhadrakali area under the Uttarpara Police Station limits on Saturday afternoon, where a woman’s bag and mobile phone were stolen. A formal complaint has been lodged at the Uttarpara Police Station, and CCTV cameras in the area have captured the incident.
According to the complaint, the woman was returning home with other women after performing puja and taking prasad at a friend’s house on Harish Mukherjee Road in Ward No. 8 of the Uttarpara Municipality. While they were walking, two young men on a motorcycle approached from behind.
The motorcycle-borne youths allegedly snatched the bag from the woman’s hand and fled the spot at high speed. Before the victim could react or raise an alarm, the attackers escaped towards GT Road.
The incident has heightened panic among local residents, who say that a series of thefts and snatching cases have taken place in the Uttarpara area in recent times. Many residents have questioned the law and order situation, alleging that action is often lacking even when women are targeted during daytime hours.
